I <3 NY

Friday, May 30, 2008

So yesterday my mom and I left on our flight to NEW YORK CITY!! One of my favourite places EVER! I went last year in my graduating year on the art trip and fell in love. The lights, the business, the famous stores, the fashion, the crazy street people selling photographs, strawberry fields, central park - just a dream city for me really. One day I hope to work here - it would be crazzzziness.

We arrived in NYC around 6 oclock and took a cab to our hotel. Its a cute little hotel with the friendliest staff!

Not only is the NYC culture so alive and FANTASTIC but last night showed me that the people in the city are truly beautiful aswell. My mom and I witnessed a few random acts of kindness.

We planned a trip to Times Square and had to take the subway and go transit type deal to get there. When i went to get my tickets from the machine I only had 20 dollar bills... I hadnt spend anything yet so i had nothing smaller. The ticket total was $21.00 and would not let me give anythin but the exact change. So here i am - stressing out .. our train is coming.. i end up pressing the automated voice button which louldy talks to me and tells me what to do. It was sooo loud - embarrasing! Angered, i go back to my mom and ask if she has a dollar bill - she doesnt.

So we were about to go ask some people if they had change when a man silently directed me to him. I walked over and he gave me the dollar. I insisted that I just get change for the bill I had and he told me not to worry about a thing. We even offered a loonie but he was sooo happy to have helped out and given us that dollar. He told us to have a fanstastic evening and to enjoy the city. I loved that. I cant really explain it - but he was just so kind.

When we got to the Penn Station - again we got totally lost.. NYC is terrible for making sense with direction. I dont get it. As we stopped and looked uber confused - a man came over and gave us all the direction we needed to know and was so incredibly polite! Loved him too. haha

Thirdly, we went into the Virigin Records music store and I noticed a girl in a wheelchair had dropped a $20 dollar bill. The man behind her picked up the bill and went and gave it back to the woman letting her know that she had dropped it. Amazing. The same thing happened later with a man who dropped his keys.

I know these dont sound like huge deals or anything - but to see all of this happen as I walked the city really made me realize that people are truly good.

I love New York!

Here are a couple pictures so far! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
